That Was Then.....

"Shining Star Seeks Funds for Second CD

I found this little gem in my wanderings online. This demonstrates Jackie's drive to fulfill her dreams, and happened just before she appeared on America's Got Talent, when we all were blown away by her talent, professionalism, charm, poise, humility and beauty. Now of course, the whole world knows about Jackie Evancho and her golden voice and she no longer needs to raise money for recordings. Now she's being paid to record! Actually, just a few months after she started this fundraiser, she was already in huge demand to record her talent. And now, just 3 short years later, at the "ripe old age" of 13, she is the huge star that she always dreamed she could and would be. Brilliantly done. A truly inspirational lesson for going after your dream and making it happen.
I can't help but think that this is an excellent lesson in the workings of the Law Of Attraction too. Jackie wanted so badly for the world to know of her as a performer and brilliant songstress that she tried everything to make that happen. The result? The Universe smiled on her, and as she was still struggling to raise funds to be able to record a 2nd cd, sent the fulfillment of her dreams rushing towards her in huge avalanches of success. From a completely different direction than she was working on! And what a well-deserved success it is. So, no more fund-raisings for our Jackie, for now she (deservedly) has the world at her pretty, charming and mind-bogglingly talented feet and we are happy that she finally managed to get the world to see and hear her perform her magic. Thanks Jackie! Great job =)

Jackie's Fundraising Efforts Before AGT ~ 2010

Shining Star Seeks Funds for Second CD

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on Jul 17, 2010.
International Recording Artist at Age 10 shows brilliant future ahead
Riding on the success of Jackie's debut CD, we are looking to take her recording experience to the next level with original material, fresh arrangements and live musicians. Professional production, mixing and mastering will be included as well as promotional dollars in order to spread this angel's voice to a much larger audience.
We are currently working with songwriters and composers on new material and fresh arrangements of some classics to wow jackie's current fans and win her many many more. Professional production is expensive but worth the investment in this 10 year old girl who has already caught the attention of big industry names including the legendary David Foster himself while performing live on stage with him in October 2009. To further demonstrate her incredible potential, she will be peforming solo in December 2010 at Carnegie Hall with American conductor/composer Tim Janis. Keep your eye on this one - she's history in the making.

TORONTO — Robert Redford has co-starred with some of the biggest
legends of the silver screen: Meryl Streep! Glenn Close! Jane Fonda!
But it’s acting newcomer Jackie Evancho who recently impressed the “Out of Africa” heartthrob.
“It was just pure joy,” Redford says of working with the singing prodigy on his new film “The Company You Keep.”
The film sees Redford juggle directing duties and a starring turn as Jim Grant, a small-town lawyer and single father whose world is shattered when a young journalist (Shia LaBeouf) discovers his past as a 1970s radical wanted by the law.
The finding sends Grant on the run in search of his ex-lover Mimi (Julie Christie) who holds the key to the long-ago crime and still holds fast to her antiwar convictions.
While many actors would clamour to work with Redford — who won an Oscar for his 1980 directorial debut, “Ordinary People” — Christie needed some cajoling.
Redford, 76, said he understood her reluctance, noting he repeatedly turned down the 1973 weeper “The Way We Were” because he didn’t want to be a “a Ken doll to Barbra Streisand.”
Said the actor: “That resistance, dragging you into something you know you want to do and have to do but you fight it is kind of a weird thing that I understand, so therefore I endured (her resistance). She made it really rough.”

Ultimately, Christie agreed to join a blue-chip cast that also includes Richard Jenkins, Anna Kendrick, Susan Sarandon, Chris Cooper and Nick Nolte.
Still, as the cameras were nearly ready to roll on “The Company You Keep,” one piece of the ensemble remained missing.
Redford — whose last directorial effort was the 2010 period piece “The Conspirator” — struggled mightily to find a suitable actress to play his daughter.
“I have a big thing about child actors, and that is I have an aversion to child actors who ‘act’ as opposed to child actors who can be natural, who can be real,” a rumpled-looking Redford said during a Sunday morning interview at last September’s Toronto International Film Festival.
“Scarlett Johansson was a kid when we did ‘The Horse Whisperer’ and I was very concerned if a child looked like they were acting it would be like fingernails on a blackboard.”
Redford said he had to cast the new film on a very tight budget and that deadlines were looming as his search for a young co-star continued.
He interviewed various child actors (“mostly their mothers, who seemed to be auditioning for something themselves,” he said with a laugh) but was unable to find someone who could improvise with him.
“I felt that since this character had to be nine or 10 years old, there had to be a sense of play that had to be really real and my guess was that it would be achieved by improvising,” he said.
Particularly dejected about the process one night, he headed back to his hotel in Vancouver, where “The Company You Keep” was shot.
“So I’m depressed and I go back to my room and I do something I don’t usually do and that’s surf.
“I’m sitting there all depressed, just drinking and surfing and drinking,” he said with a laugh.
“And suddenly I’m skipping across these channels and there’s this angelic face, this golden-haired angelic face ... singing. And there’s a close-up and I think: ‘Who is that?’ and she was singing Puccini’s opera.”
That girl was Evancho, whose soaring voice wowed TV audiences on “America’s Got Talent” and caught the ear of uber-producer David Foster. She’s since released a hit Christmas CD, done PBS specials and performed for Oprah Winfrey and U.S. President Barack Obama.
But could she act? It didn’t initially appear so, said Redford.
After seeing her on TV, he sent out the word that he’d like to get an audition tape of the singing sensation.
“(The tape) was horrible because she didn’t know what was going on and I said: ‘I don’t care and, my gut says (to cast her). So I cast her,”’ Redford recalled.
Days later, the pint-sized prodigy was on a movie set trading improvised lines with a screen icon.
And Redford loved every minute of it.
“She was not affected, she played with me, I would kid around, she’d kid around with me,” he said. “To me, that’s an incredible story how that happened.”
“The Company You Keep” opens Friday in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Beauty In Beauty ~ Ms Jackie Evancho

At a Glance

Birthname: Jacqueline Marie Evancho
Nationality: American
Born: Apr 09 2000

BIOGRAPHY
"So far, fans have gotten small tastes of what Jackie Evancho can do, but with the release of Dream With Me her highly-anticipated, first full-length album, they will get their first full serving of her staggering talent.
The SYCO/Columbia album reunites the 10-year old singing phenomenon with legendary producer David Foster. Jackie caught the attention of Foster two years ago when she won a regional competition that allowed her to sing as Foster accompanied her on piano. “He thought her voice was extraordinary,” Jackie’s father Michael says.
So much so that the 16-time Grammy winner Foster helms Dream With Me and brought some remarkable company with him. The world’s most celebrated female singer Barbra Streisand duets with Jackie on one of Streisand’s signature songs, “West Side Story’s” “Somewhere,” while singing sensation and 2009 “Britain’s Got Talent” contestant Susan Boyle performs the tender “A Mother’s Prayer” with Jackie.
Dream with Me features a repertoire of classical arias and pop classics handpicked to suit Jackie’s angelic voice. Her range is so great that she ably shifts from the Disney classic “When You Wish Upon A Star” to Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma.”
Foster has worked with the biggest names in music, including Beyonce, Prince, Josh Groban and Celine Dion, but he admits that Jackie’s talent astonished him. “Her natural ability and the depth of her understanding of the musical process left me speechless,” he says. “She was a pure joy to work with and I had a front row seat to one of the next great talents of our time.”
Dream With Me is the follow-up to Jackie’s SYCO/Columbia Records major label debut, last November’s seasonal collection, “O Holy Night.” The set, which featured the classical crossover soprano singing such Christmas favorite as “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night,” blazed onto the Billboard 200 at No. 2, making Jackie the youngest female solo artist to debut during the SoundScan era as well as the year’s top-selling debut artist. Additionally, the exceptionally beautiful collection topped the Billboard Classical Chart.
Although last summer’s edition of “America’s Got Talent” introduced the world to Jackie and her astonishing vocal talent, her musical story begins before her life-changing appearance on the talent contest. The starting point came from what seemed like just another outing for the Evancho family: a trip to the cinema to see “The Phantom of the Opera.”
“We went to see it in the movie theater. It was very, very good,” Jackie told Pennsylvania television station WPXI. “It was a very long movie and we were mesmerized by it.” Her mother, Lisa, purchased the DVD and something in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s score resonated in Jackie, igniting a passion in her soul. Still, as she sang the melodramatic tunes from the film around the house in her shimmering soprano, “We really didn’t think [her voice] was anything out of the ordinary,” says Michael. “She’s our oldest daughter; there were no other seven-year-olds to compare it to.” They soon realized how wrong they were as Jackie began stopping people in their tracks with her vocals. “At her first little talent competition, we invited my parents,” Mike recalls. “She started to sing, my folks looked at each other like ‘What’s going on here?’ Plus with the crowd reaction, then we knew.”
It seems unfathomable now, but Jackie’s appearance on “AGT” came after other brushes with the show were met with rejection. She auditioned twice for “AGT” in person in Philadelphia and the producers passed on her. It wasn’t until her parents submitted a YouTube audition for “AGT,” almost on a whim, that she finally found her home on center stage.
The viewers who watched Jackie’s stunning audition submission couldn’t forget what they’d witnessed. She earned the most fan votes through the YouTube competition, awarding her the twelfth spot among the slate of “AGT” contestants for the show’s fifth season.
Her first on-air performance, in which she sung Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro,” also included on Dream With Me, was transcendent, shocking and delighting the surprised audience.
She further wowed everyone with her subsequent performances of “Time to Say Goodbye,” made famous by her idols, Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman; Webber’s version of “Pie Jesu,” and, in the finale, the classic “Ava Maria.” Her sterling appearances sent sales of her self-made independent release, “Prelude to a Dream” soaring up Billboard’s Top Classical Crossover Albums Chart, where it peaked at No. 2.
While other girls her age are singing pop ditties they hear on Top 40 stations, Jackie has an inherent understanding of her talent. “I never really had a pop voice,” she told WPXI. “But even if I had a pop voice, I would have gone with classical because it’s different from what many other children do, because with classical you’re able to show emotion in it.”
She also continues to cultivate her other musical abilities, learning to play both the violin and piano. She’s already mastered the theme to “The Godfather,” according to her mom.
Keeping Jackie’s extraordinary life as normal as possible is vital to Michael and Lisa. “She gets in trouble like any other 10 year old,” Michael says. “There are times she can’t play with her friends because her homework isn’t done...She has to do the normal chore stuff: clean her room, straighten up.”
But they make sure she has plenty of time to dream and for us to dream with her. After all, if nothing else, Dream With Me is a testament to the power of living one’s dreams and inspiring others to realize theirs as well. As Jackie says, “If someone has a dream, they should always go for it because that’s what happened to me and my dream came true.”
